A young bard from Liverpool, Alex Hulme writes catchy songs that he per­forms with pas­sion. He sounds gen­uinely naive like a teenager (in fact, he was still a teenager two years ago), but because of his great song­writ­ing skills and hon­est voice I’m will­ing to respect and even accept his inter­pre­ta­tion of real­ity, at least for the dura­tion of his songs. I think that’s the state of mind that movie crit­ics call sus­pen­sion of dis­be­lief, with­out which every fairy-tale looks sim­ply ridicu­lous. And nobody with a soul would want that.
